About Us......

The history of Otero County Electric Cooperative, Inc. (OCEC) starts in October 1939. The original board members were Ray Daniels, MD Brantley, LA Hendrix, CM Bell, Ora Swope, JM Walker, John Mershon, Angie Cleve and JB Runyan. The first meeting was held in the Texas Hotel, which has now become the Antique Shop. The first by-laws were instated and membership certificates were issued at $5.00. Line construction started and the purchase of equipment, electric generating transmission and distribution properties were finalized.

Over the years, offices were expanded to Carrizozo and Alto, sales increased, more lines were built and new technology implemented. The current total of miles of line now stands at 2,484 compared to 76 in 1941. The Cooperative is constantly striving to bring electricity to the consumers at the lowest cost, and to provide dependable service to all our members.

Today we serve 16,117 meters among four counties (Otero – Lincoln – Chaves and Socorro). OCEC has 51 full time and 3 part time employees.

If you have any questions on member relations, energy management, public relations, or concerns about your bill please don’t hesitate to contact Clint Gardner, Manager of Marketing and Member Services at 505-336-4550.
